IT’S PARTY TIME AS ARMADA WAY OPENING DATE IS REVEALED
The £30m project to restore Armada Way to its former glory is nearly complete and will open to the public on Saturday July 4 with a big FREE party for everyone.
It’s a huge milestone in the regeneration of the city centre and will come as a welcome relief to businesses which have been impacted by the disruption.
But a new era is now upon us with footfall returning, new businesses moving in and further investment on the way creating new uses for empty buildings.
The investment gives us and partners the opportunity to maximise the potential of the improved public spaces with a packed annual events programme to attract more visitors and customers to your businesses.
We will be working with the city council and other partners on the grand opening party and hope all our businesses, staff, friends and family will join in on the day.
Full details will be released later but expect live music, dance, street theatre, and other family friendly activities.
The new play village, the size of five championship tennis courts will be open for the first time and the water features switched on.
Wimbledon on the Big Screen will be staged on The Piazza along with free sessions on our city centre Padel Court and there will be a continental market in New George Street and live music from 1pm with our Saturday Sessions in Old Town Square.
Steve Hughes, the City Centre Company chief executive, said: “This is the party the city centre needs and deserves. Many of our businesses have been impacted by the disruption but the investment in the city centre public spaces was vital to survive.
“From July 4, we will have a city centre to be proud of. One which is safer, more welcoming, and full of life and more customers for all our businesses. We hope all our businesses will help us to spread the word and join in the fun.”
Make sure you and your staff are following us for updates here: Facebook and remember, the more you join in, the more successful the city centre will be.
